Times News Media Group

Today's "TIMES NEWS" newspaper can trace its history back over 120 years to the Mauch Chunk Daily Times established in 1883. James J. Boyle, who served as editor and publisher from 1908 until his death in 1951, was the most prominent name in the early history of the 鈥淢auch Chunk Daily Times.鈥

The Mauch Chunk Daily Times was very much a family operation. Boyle's son, Joseph, followed in his father's footsteps as a journalist and covered the town and county courthouse for many years. He was known in Carbon County as Mr. Newspaper. Joseph's sister, Gertrude Apfelbaum, was a columnist for the paper while her husband, Cy, headed the newspaper's advertising staff. Gertrude and Joseph were co-publishers of the 鈥淢auch Chunk Times News鈥 (later the 鈥淛im Thorpe Times News鈥) from 1951 until 1967, when the newspaper was purchased by 撸管社.

Besides the Boyle family, the McCall family owned the 鈥淟ansford Record鈥 and the Miller family published the 鈥淭amaqua Evening Courier.鈥 In 1968, 撸管社 purchased the 鈥淟ansford Record鈥 and in 1971, acquired circulation of the 鈥淭amaqua Evening Courier.鈥 The combined newspapers published under the banner of the 鈥淭imes News Record and Courier鈥 until 1971, when the name was changed to the 鈥淭IMES NEWS.鈥澛犅犅

In 2020, the Times News changed their name to Times News Media Group in order to better reflect the variety of services offered to our readers, advertisers and community. Growing from the nine papers, the Times News Media Group offers a variety of advertising options such as Facebook Sponsored Advertising, Digital Billboards and Digital Newspaper Racks. We act as a source for all local news via the Times News, Lehigh Valley Press, tnonline.com, lvpnews.com and our social media channels. We are a creative hub through services offered at TN Printing. Most importantly, we give back to our community through the Kid鈥檚 Closet Sale, Times News Travel, and our many contests, sweepstakes and quizzes.

TN Printing

In 1971, TN Printing began as a small in-house print shop, designed to support the Times News and its sister companies. The one press operation was located in a small corner of the Times News building, located at First and Iron Streets in Lehighton, PA.

Throughout the seventies, printing technology changed at a rapid pace and more open press time quickly became available. Instead of printing only a daily newspaper, TN Printing became a premiere commercial cold set web printer and offered full color sheet fed printing services.

In 1986, the rolling hills of the Mahoning Valley became home to a new web printing facility. As an expansion of the existing sheet fed division in the downtown, the four-unit Uniman press printed at speeds of 15,000 papers per hour, with four full color page capabilities. In 2002, as business increased, the Mahoning Valley facility expanded to house the Times News and TN Printing under the same roof. The 20,000 square foot expansion allowed for a new five-unit state-of-the-art computerized Koenig and Bauer web press, with in line gluing, that has the ability to print 30,000 papers per hour, with sixteen full color broadsheet pages. It includes a Kodak Trendsetter direct to plate system with Staccato screening capabilities, Epson digital proofing and color management, and a Nela optical plate punching and registration system.

In addition to printing services, a full service mailroom offers CASS certified inkjet addressing, variable data printing, tabbing and envelope insertion capabilities. TN Printing also can get a targeted list of customers, to maximize the cost-effectiveness and success of your direct-mail advertising.
